How Solar Power Works
Everone’s going green these days, so just how does solar power work?
It is very simple. A solar panel (a “solar generator”) converts light to electricity. During daylight hours (even on cloudy days), the solar panel charges long-life high-capacity batteries which store the electrical energy until it is needed.
The electrical energy that is generated by the solar panel and stored in the batteries is then used to power a specially-designed high-efficiency light that is mounted in a super reflective housing and equipped with a high energy ballast.
In practice, our solar lighting systems are more complex. In addition to batteries and solar panels, our systems also incorporate a sophisticated solar controller which switches the light on and off, stops the flow of solar generated electricity when the batteries are fully charged, and resumes charging when more power is needed. The combination of the solar panel, the batteries, and the solar controller is known as the “solar power pack,” which is the key to a solar lighting system.
